TONY MILLS, MD

CEO/Sub-Investigator

Dr. Anthony Mills is an HIV Specialist and is the CEO of the Men’s Health Foundation and President of the Southern California Men’s Medical Group in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Mills is also the Principal Investigator at Mills Clinical Research and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Mills earned his undergraduate degree at Duke University and his medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his residency and fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Mills has an extensive research background and has conducted numerous clinical trials for HIV treatment and prevention. Dr. Mills is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of American, HIV Medical Association, International AIDS Society, IAS-USA, and the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

MANUEL PARDO, MD

Principal Investigator

Dr. Pardo is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and is nationally recognized as an HIV specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. After completing medical school in 2002 in Colombia where he was born and raised, Dr. Pardo moved to the US to continue his education. While preparing for the medical boards, he worked in the medical research field and collaborated in clinical trials. In 2009, Dr. Pardo completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Tufts University in Boston. Dr. Pardo then completed his fellowship at University of California Irvine in 2011, where he focused on Infectious Diseases. Before joining SoCal MMG, Dr. Pardo worked in Long Beach, CA for The CARE Center, a non-profit HIV program for underserved patients, and was also an Infectious Diseases Consultant for Long Beach Memorial Hospital and Saint Mary's Medical Center. Driven by his passion for treating infectious diseases and HIV, Dr. Pardo is highly compassionate toward each one of his patients.

MICHAEL HIRSCH, RN

Senior Director of Clinical Research Operations

As the Director of Clinical Research & Operations, Michael leads MCR’s clinical research team and oversees its day-to-day operations. Michael is a Registered Nurse who started his nursing career in cardiac and pulmonary critical care in Orlando, Florida. He transitioned into the field of Infectious Diseases and there found his passion for clinical research. He has a strong background in HIV clinical trials and most recently has been extensively involved in a variety of NIH and NIAID clinical trials for COVID-19 treatment and prevention. Michael prides himself in his dedication to offering safe and ethical clinical trial opportunities to the entire community while leading a passionate and inclusive team of research professionals.

DAVID HARDY, MD

Sr. Director - Research Strategy and Development

Dr. Wm David Hardy serves as Senior Director of Research Strategy and Development at Men's Health Foundation/Mills Clinical Research. He is also Clinical Professor of Family Medicine and HIV Consultant for Street Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where he teaches trainees from the LA County-USC Rand Schrader HIV Clinic.

Previously, Dr. Hardy served as Senior Director of Research at Whitman-Walker Health in Washington, D.C., overseeing NIH-funded AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) studies, HIV cohort research, and industry-sponsored clinical trials, while holding an appointment as Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Professor of Medicine at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine. He has also served as Chief Medical Officer for Calimmune and Acting Chief Medical Officer for Enochian Biosciences, leading the development of cell and gene therapies targeting HIV, hepatitis B, influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Hardy earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. During the early years of the AIDS epidemic, he completed fellowships in infectious diseases, immunology, clinical research, and molecular retrovirology at UCLA under the mentorship of pioneers including Dr. Michael Gottlieb, who first identified AIDS, and Dr. Irvin Chen, focusing on retroviral vector development for gene therapy and vaccine research.

Since 1982, Dr. Hardy has cared for people living with HIV, and since 1984 he has conducted research advancing HIV treatment and prevention. His work has spanned opportunistic infections, antiretroviral therapy, immunotherapy, hepatitis treatment, retroviral vectors, and cellular and gene therapies aimed at achieving an HIV cure.

A recognized leader in HIV medicine, Dr. Hardy served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the HIV Medicine Association (2018–2019) and currently serves as Treasurer and Executive Committee member of the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He is Editor-in-Chief of Fundamentals of HIV Medicine for the HIV Specialist, AAHIVM's comprehensive clinical textbook, and has long supported numerous Los Angeles community organizations serving people affected by HIV, including AIDS Project Los Angeles, Project Angel Food, Alliance for Housing and Healing, Being Alive, AIDS Research Alliance, and the Foundation for the AIDS Monument.
